Scouts on Herzy and other links

Scout.com considers Herzy the top NFL defensive prospect in the college ranks. I expect his draft status to continue to rise over the next few weeks. In my opinion, if he is a first rounder, he's gone.

Here is a behind the scenes look at the Gator Bowl's selection process. BC isn't even bandied about in the weeks running up to the game.

HD recapped the 2008 season and named BC the surprise of the year.

Scott Clemmensen is filling the void left by Martin Brodeur. (Thanks to Tim for the link.)

The BC women trounced UNH.

BC has interest in 2010 RB Tony Jones.

The never ending recruiting process of BC target Tajh Boyd, now includes Ohio State.

Another BC soccer player has signed with a European team.

Great article about the Gator Bowl selection process. Here is the best quote about the supposed concern of the very lame Gator Committe about keeping up with standards:

"But the Gator Bowl has never invited a five-loss team in the 64-year history of the game, a strong point of pride. Will Notre Dame be the team that breaks the rule? 'It will take a leap of faith to invite Notre Dame at 7-5,' Catlett reminds the committee.'"

The Gator Guys stayed true to principles and did not invite the 5 loss ND team. ...

Oh, wait a minute, they had to toss the standards ...

To make the most moeny possible, they invited the 7-5 Clemson Tigers!! .... oh well, at least they mouthed the standards and thought of applying them.

... what a joke.

Could we consider getting together and boycotting Gator's sponsor and Chick-Fil-A for thar matter. If we nail the sponsor in the pocketbook, maybe things will change. If the Bowl committe's thougths are focused just on the local market (e.g. attracting fans from out of town to boost the local economy) , and not the broader TV or the Sponsor market, we won't ever get invited.

Imagine if every BC fan refused to ever go to Chick-Fil-A. I know Chick-Fil-A is running lots of "Eat Mor Chiken" ads during BC games and otehr sports programs in the New England area. They must be must be planning on opening a lot more stores here in New Engalnd.. If we could derail their expansion plans you know ($$) things would change!!

Gator Bowl Selection - what a joke.

"Clemson will give us the most traveling fans," Catlett said. "FSU will give us the most local ticket sales."

how the heck did curry win butkus over herzlich? i could see one of the other guys being voted in instead because of "national exposure" or that crap, but curry wasn't even the best linebacker in his conference.

oh and i just booked my ticket for nashville, see you all there.

Maybe if we traveled, spent money, and marketed the hell out of the school, we would get those Gator and Peach looks.

Boycotting isn't a bad idea, in terms of getting noticed, but doing the above instead would probably leave both sides happy and not bearing ill will.

BeanTown BC85 hit the nail on the head.

The problem with the program is marketing. You think our marketing majors from the Carroll School of Management could work on some project to market the football team better. We probably got some bridge water state guys or BU guys doing it now.

What a shame......it ain't my problem....it is Gene's

Reading the article on the Gator Bowl Selection process just further illustrates that virtually all bowl games in the last decade, with the exception of the BCS bowls, are utterly pointless.

There are 34 Bowl games this year. A 6-6 team now goes to a bowl?? Not too many years ago a bowl game invitation was reserved for teams that had an exceptional season. Today over 50% of all FBS teams go to a bowl game. Some teams will have gone to a bowl and have ended the 2008 season with a losing record. (Very likely Notre Dame)

Only the Rose Bowl has any true tradition. The rest are just additional road games in "exotic" locations like Fort Worth, Boise, El Paso, Shreveport, Detroit, and Albuquerque.

The proliferation of bad bowl games with no history or tradition dilutes what originally made making a bowl game special.

Unfortunately, I have to admit that I'd rather attend a game during the season in Chestnut Hill or on the road at Clemson, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, or USC in the future. These are places that are full of passion, beautiful campuses and great traditions.

Also, Dudley got traded to the Suns today, according to ESPN.

Clemmensen isn't the only Eagle keeper playing due to an injury. Schneider is playing for the Canucks while Luongo is out. He's getting a little roughed up but it's more a product of Vancouver's terrible defense.
