Media Day roundup

I usually wince during Spaz's media sessions. This one I enjoyed. It's the most clear he's been about the team's objectives. There was no hedging. No deprecation. I don't know if there is growing confidence or if there is pressure to raise expectations with the fanbase. Who cares why he is finally changing his tune? The change is welcome.

BC Football's Twitter account did a great job covering the event. Check their timeline for links, quotes and pics.

The Herald had a good interview with Quigley.

Montel has a new haircut and is ready to perform at his pre-injury level.

Here are some select pictures from the day. BC also posted select player quotes.

The notes section of this post, mentioned Brian St. Pierre joining BC's radio broadcast team.

I hate to expose the chink in the armor, but the reason Spaz shined was because this was tape delayed in an empty press room. This tape reveals Spaz;s true personality, that's how he coaches, and how he recruits. But what you see here is reserved for friends and colleagues. He's old school and erects a shell around the media, b/c he distrusts them. The tape deal was an attempt to bring his true personality out.

Maybe he just feels better about the starting QB and the fact none of his players have cancer - those two things sure can weigh on a guy. A first for Spaz, I must say - he has raised my expectations.

Interesting if that was only said in an empty room. It was still released by NESN, not just BC's internal site.

Ultimately, it's the most specific and upbeat I've ever our coach. I'd rather see him open up with the media, but what really matters is that internally these are the program goals and that he communicates them to the players and recruits.

the quotes on player expectations from Spaz have also been a lot more upbeat and positive this year. maybe Slick Gene told him he needs to be more positive, maybe Spaz just feels better about our team (since we are better than we were last year).

texas a&m joining SEC... to be followed possibly by clemson, florida state, and missouri. Could be an interesting couple weeks leading up to the season.

Is the SEC desperate? If they are such a great conference why do they need to expand? Could it be that the NFL top 100 exposed them as poseurs? Remember the 3 ex-Big East teams: Miami, BC and VT alone produced moore NFL top 100 than the entire SEC: 14 players vs. 13. The entire ACC outdid the SEC 22 to 13. These unhappy statistics may explain the SEC's motivation. "How all occasions do inform against the SEC and spur their dull revenge." Isn't it more likely the SEC will expand to 16 teams, including TAM, Okl., Okl. St. and Mizzou folowed by a Pac 12 move to take Tex. Tech., Baylor and TCU? Politics in Texas may dictate that result. Lastly the Big 10-ACC merger.

El Miz and I were blasted yesterday for daring to mention that conference realigmemt might result in an ACC shake-up with the potential that BC might go to the Big 10. I hate this changing landscape in college football but it is what it is and BC needs to be prepared. I'm not sure the Big 10 even wants us but it is the best alternative to a watered-down ACC.

The best uniforms are modeled by Luke and Nathan - both with gold pants for home and away.

I'm sick of realignment talk ad nauseum - but we have to be savvy.

The good news is that Florida does not want Florida State in the SEC nor does South Carolina want Clemson in conference, so the SEC might find the waters a little rough in ACC country. I think the Big 12 has a lot more to worry about in conference realignment than the ACC.

The end result of all of this is not going to be good for college football. It is hard enough to win a conference with 10-12 teams. BC has never done so. Imagine trying to win a conference with 16 teams! The average school may have a shot at once every 15-20 years.

In better news, the first kick-off is less than 3 weeks away!!
