Owens update and other links

Ohio's top recruit Tariq Owens asked for his release right as the Christian speculation kicked into high gear. Now reports say that the University won't let him go despite past precedent. I don't know how the situation will play out, but I doubt that BC or JC get involved. Stealing Owens would be bad form.

Baseball lost their weekend series to North Carolina.

Demko will be blogging about the Frozen Four for NHL.com.

Lacrosse beat Duke.

Two team showed up for ALJ's Pro Day in Brockton. That's two more than I ever would have predicted.

Softball lost to Pitt.

In case you missed it, Dominique Williams will be the McGillis scholar again.

BC has interest in Georgia recruit Daniel David. However, South Carolina looks to be in the driver seat.

Maybe it's an old picture, but Owens looks very skinny. If so he will have a hard time battling down low in the ACC. We need guys like Agbai, and Abrams, not another Odio.

I think I'd rather have the guy who took the Ohio U job than have Christian as the new BC coach.

And why would you rather that?

Because at least he's on the upswing. There's a chance that he'll become a really good coach.

Whereas Christian is obviously a bum on his way out? Yeesh. I'd like to see a stat on the total number of basketball games coached by posters on atleagle and BCI, at any level above pee wees. Or played, for that matter.

Hey all, lets quit the bickering. Christian is our coach, and we have to live with it. We all care for BC sports, and we all deep down want to see Christian win.

With that said, I think the two most important issues right now in the state of Boston College Basketball are:

1) As optimistic as everyone was going into this basketball season, do you think Christian can turn this team around and achieve what we all thought the team could achieve? I mean, I thought this team was painful to watch this year and I really am down on the guys. I hope they prove me wrong.

2) Probably even more important.... recruiting. Can this guy get people to commit? I know I should know this, but what is our recruiting picture for this year and the following year? I know we have one guy committed, but I know nothing about him. And I assume we have a huge class to fill once Anderson and the boys graduate right?

If U Maryland assistant, Scott Spinelli, is hired as assistant to J. Christian, we will know BC is somewhat serious about beefing up basketball staff.

Spinelli would probably have been better received a Head Coach than J. Christian. At least he has nothing to do with the MAC.

Anticipating the reaction from the Bates Motel dwellers:

None of the BC stakeholders; i.e. fans, alumni, students, faculty, players, etc. were allowed any participation in the selection process. Thus, we have no ownership in the result.

Asst. AD Cameron's comment about playing an April Fool's joke on the BC community about the selection reminded me of GDF's tone deaf comments of the past.

I disagree that that Tariq following Christian is bad form.

Remember, Tariq is still in high school, and we havent even hit the normal LOI day, so this isn't a normal transfer. Tariq shouldn't be held hostage to a early signing if his favorite coach left. Nor does it make sense that he shouldn't he be allowed to follow his favorite coach. After all, this is supposed to be about the kids.

Realize that the "early signing" proposal the NCAA is currently considering for football would automatically release a high school kid from his LOI if the coach leaves. This is the same thing.

If Tariq goes to prep school in the fall, then he can enroll in any college in the spring without sitting out. That's probably what helped do.
